Billy Appleyard appeared before Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on 9 January charged with nine counts of shop theft. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, ordered to pay compensation of £824.88, and issued a Criminal Behaviour Order not to enter any retail premises in Skegness with the exception of Iceland on Berry Way. This order will remain in place for two years.

Inspector Jacky Evans said: “Shop theft is not a victimless crime – it impacts local businesses, staff, and the wider community. We know how frustrating and costly these offences can be, and we want to reassure residents and retailers that we take this issue seriously. Our officers work closely with partners to identify offenders and bring them to justice, and we will continue to take robust action against those who persist in committing these crimes.”

A Skegness man has been charged and remanded for nine counts of shop theft after a series of thefts across the town in December.

Billy Appleyard, 28, of Tennyson Green, Skegness was wanted for a series of shop theft incidents which were reported to have taken place across various supermarkets and retail premises in Skegness throughout December.

Thanks to our excellent network of partners, he was spotted and swiftly arrested yesterday, 8 January, at Morrisons in Skegness. He was subsequently charged and remanded for the multiple theft offences.

He is due appear at Lincoln Magistrates Court today.
