19 applicants have moved a step closer to receiving funding through the government’s Pride in Place programme in Skegness after they were shortlisted through an open call process.

Last autumn, Skegness Neighbourhood Board invited expressions of interest for proposals that could make a difference to the town.

All the applications were assessed – with support from independent technical experts – against a firm set of criteria.

A key requirement of the assessment was that all submissions had to fit with community needs, identified through public consultation carried out by the board.

Now, 19 proposals have been chosen to move forward to the next stage, with the submissions covering themes of regeneration; health and wellbeing; arts and culture, and work, productivity and skills. The applications encompass a variety of projects such as community facilities, digital access, green spaces, and more.

The applicants will now have the opportunity to provide more detailed information around their submission which will then be considered by a panel of Skegness Neighbourhood Board members for final decision.

The successful proposals will receive funding through the first tranche of Pride in Place funding which is expected from the government this spring.

Paul McCooey, Chair, Skegness Neighbourhood Board said: “We had a fantastic response to our open call for projects, and the board appreciates the time and effort all the applicants made to set out their proposals.

“Based on what the community has told us, what we know about Skegness, and the parameters of the funding, we have assessed all the submissions carefully against our clear criteria, and 19 of these have been invited to go forward to the next round of the process.

“This is just the first of many opportunities to work together with local groups and organisations to shape and deliver projects that can benefit people in Skegness.

“We are excited about the potential that we have over the next ten years to make a difference for Skegness and the open call process is just one way in which we can achieve that.”
